This Privacy Policy explains how SpeakShare(“SpeakShare”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the SpeakShare mobile app and website (the “Service”). We have tried to keep it clear and specific. If anything is unclear, contact us at hello@speakshare.io.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and any profile details you add, such as a display name, avatar, and bio. You can sign up with an email address and password, or sign in with Google, Apple, or X (Twitter), in which case we receive basic profile information (such as your name and email address) from that provider. We never see your password for those providers.
Content you create
We collect the video recordings you make and upload, along with related content and metadata: thumbnails, captions, transcripts, descriptions, tags, comments, likes, follows, drafts, and the privacy setting you choose for each post. Recording only happens when you start a practice session; the app does not record in the background.
Practice and feedback data
To power coaching features, we process your recordings into transcripts and delivery metrics such as speaking pace, pauses, filler words, and vocal energy, and we generate written AI feedback. We also keep practice session details such as the mode you used, attempt counts, and session duration so you can track your progress.
Purchase information
If you buy feedback credits or a subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play. We receive transaction confirmations (such as a transaction identifier, product, and purchase state) so we can credit your account and verify purchases on our servers. We never receive your card number or full payment details.
Usage, device, and diagnostic information
We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how the app is used. This includes events such as screens viewed and features used, device type, operating system version, and app version. Our analytics include session replay of the app’s interface to help us find and fix usability problems; text you type is masked in these replays. We also collect crash reports and performance diagnostics so we can fix bugs. We do not use advertising SDKs and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Device permissions
The app asks for permission before using your camera and microphone (to record practice sessions), your photo library (to choose a profile picture or save your videos), speech recognition (processed on your device to check your spoken answers in the Synonyms game), and notifications (for practice reminders you schedule yourself; these are local to your device). You can change these permissions at any time in your device settings.
How we use your information
- To provide, operate, secure, and improve the Service.
- To transcribe your recordings, generate captions, and produce AI-assisted speaking feedback.
- To personalize your feed and recommendations.
- To enable social features such as following, comments, likes, and in-app notifications.
- To process purchases and maintain your credit balance.
- To maintain safety, moderate content, and enforce our Terms.
- To communicate with you about the Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your recordings for advertising.
Service providers
To deliver core features, we share limited data with providers that process it on our behalf:
- Supabase: authentication, database, and file storage for your account, profile, and content.
- Cloudflare: our API infrastructure, and Cloudflare Stream for hosting and delivering your videos.
- AssemblyAI: speech-to-text processing of your recordings to generate transcripts and captions.
- Anthropic: transcripts and delivery metrics are processed by the Claude API to generate written coaching feedback.
- Speaking analysis: audio features such as pace, pauses, and energy are computed by our own analysis service, hosted on DigitalOcean.
- PostHog: product analytics, session replay, and crash reporting, as described above.
- Apple and Google: payment processing for in-app purchases, and sign-in if you choose those providers.
- TikTok: only if you connect your TikTok account to cross-post a video, as described below.
These providers may use your information only to provide services to us. We do not permit them to use your content for their own purposes, such as advertising or training their AI models.
How your content is shared
Content you publish is visible according to the privacy setting you choose for each post: public posts can be viewed by anyone using the Service, including people browsing as guests, while followers-only posts are limited to your followers. You control whether viewers can comment on each post. Drafts and unpublished takes are private to your account. If you connect your TikTok account, you can choose to cross-post a recording to TikTok, which is then governed by TikTok’s own terms and privacy policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. Drafts remain available until you publish or delete them, and you can delete individual videos at any time, which also removes their stored thumbnails and transcripts.
You can delete your account in the app under Profile, Account Management. Deletion takes effect after a 30-day grace period, during which you can change your mind by signing back in. After the grace period, your account and associated data, including recordings, transcripts, feedback, and profile information, are permanently deleted from our systems, subject to limited legal and security retention requirements. Aggregated analytics that no longer identify you may be retained.
Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can manage most of your information directly in the app, or contact us using the details below to exercise these rights. If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. California residents may exercise their rights under the CCPA by contacting us; we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, signed video delivery URLs, and server-side verification of purchases. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
International users
We process and store information on infrastructure that may be located in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we put in place appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app.
